We are a public institution for research-based engagement at the interface between the human, natural, and social sciences, and engineering, art and design. They do so through Living Exhibitions, Public Engagement Programmes, Mentorship Initiatives, and a pioneering Public Lab Complex.
We create research-based engagement for young adults at the intersection of the natural and human sciences, engineering, art, and design—through exhibitions, mentorship opportunities, and informal learning programmes built with artists and scholars from across interdisciplinary fields. Founded with the support of the Government of Karnataka, we now rely on individuals and institutions to keep that work free and growing.

TRAINING WORKSHOPS FOR PUBLIC LIBRARIES ACROSS KARNATAKA
“Knowledge is a public good. So if that is what informs our desire to put new research into the public domain to create a public life for research, so to speak, then how does one do it for an independent institution? So that was my starting point.”
All our efforts are towards making knowledge a public good.
Knowledge shouldn't stop at our doors, or end with the close of each exhibition-season. This is why we are working with the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (RDPR), Government of Karnataka, to carry our exhibition-based learning resources into public libraries across the state.
How do we know it works? This has been tried and tested.
A pilot run of three workshops trained 180 library staff from all 31 districts of Karnataka. Now, through workshops conducted in Kannada and English, we want to librarians and educators statewide to use tools like our Exhibition-in-a-Box, Activity Handbook, and Open-courseware—turning libraries into places for hands-on learning across science, art and everything else, especially in the rural and peri-urban communities who do not have the comfort of visiting the Gallery space.
With nearly 6,000 public libraries in Karnataka, this programme with the Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) has the potential to reach diverse rural and peri-urban communities. Your contribution will support us to bring new ways of learning and discovery to these communities.
The cost for reaching one librarian is approximately INR 1000. This fundraiser has a modest goal of raising
INR 5,00,000 to reach 500 libraries for Phase 1 of this initiative.
If you would like to share your contribution as a bank transfer, cheque, or a gift on behalf of your organisation, please write to us at development@bengaluru.sciencegallery.com (Wed-Sun, 10am–8pm IST).
