CALORIE Student Walkthroughs

Students exploring our previous exhibition-season CARBON.

CALORIE is our latest exhibition-season that explores humanity’s intimate yet fraught relationship with food. It investigates how what we grow, buy, cook, eat, and throw away has been shaped by colonial histories, industrial systems, state policies, and scientific ideas.

Ration games, ragi keyboards, sugar-blown sculptures, edible earth, and so much more!

Through playful and thought-provoking exhibits, a learning journey through CALORIE encourages students to unpack how food became data, how nutrition became a tool of control, and how these histories continue to shape present-day debates around equality, health, access, and sustainability.

Experimentors, our trained exhibition experts, lead tailored walkthroughs for students aged 15 to 28 years. The walkthroughs focus on hands-on learning experiences through critical discussions and lively activities. We conduct these walkthroughs in English or Kannada, and can conduct them in other Indian languages upon request.

DIGITAL LEARNING RESOURCES

The freely accessible Science Gallery Bengaluru Courseware brings together resources from our exhibition-seasons to facilitate non-evaluative, open-ended, and interdisciplinary learning.

We have five modules on Carbon and climate change. The first introduces students to climate change and carbon, and the others approach this topic through the lens of biophysics, art, technology, and lived experience. Each module consists of expert-led lecture videos, documentary films, articles to read, as well as exercises and assignments that promote critical engagement with the respective topics.

It is accompanied by an Instructor Guide that you can access here.
