Grow Cans
Grown Cans was an exhibit by Bengaluru Sustainability Grantee artist Suresh Kumar. It introduced visitors to an easy way of growing local greens better suited to Bengaluru’s environment in their balconies or terraces using less water. The cans also provided a way to compost kitchen waste helping reduce the burden on the city’s waste management systems.
About the Artist
Visual artist and art teacher Suresh Kumar moonlights as an ecological pioneer in his native village Volagerekallahalli near Sarjapur, in the outskirts of the city. He has launched a unique initiative, called ‘Sarjapur Curries’, to educate members of his village to grow seasonal and medicinal varieties of vegetables and greens. The focus is on growing things not consumed anymore, largely because they are not considered commercially viable.
