Everyday Materials is an interactive, neighborhood-based sustainability exhibition that invites visitors to look beneath the surface of the things we use everyday—from clothes and food packaging, to cosmetics and plastics. The project operates on the principle that solving large environmental issues requires making sustainability accessible close to home. Rather than treating sustainability as something opposed to convenience, the initiative creates space to explore, reflect, and imagine possibilities for change by bringing the conversations into residential neighbourhoods.
Having moved from Bangalore Creative Circus, the exhibition arrives to the Gallery connecting everyday materials to elements of nature.
“We are pleased to host the Socratus Foundation as they bring Everyday Materials to the Gallery. The objects we use every day carry stories about the planet that we rarely stop to ask about. Opening up that kind of inquiry, beyond a classroom and into a neighbourhood, is exactly what Science Gallery Bengaluru is built to do. This travelling exhibition brings research-based public engagement with science and art to where people actually live, and invites them into a conversation about sustainability that's grounded in their own daily choices.”
