Fascinating Story of the Diamond
How does the diamond become a physicist’s best friend?
Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, Asia’s first Nobel laureate in the sciences, conducted extensive research on diamonds in the 1930s. Raman’s theory was in conflict with that of physicist Max Born, as they disagreed over the crystal dynamics of diamond. This exhibit was more than just a tale of scientists in their laboratories. Visitors explored archival material featuring diamond merchants, maharajas, and students who flocked to Raman’s lecture halls, and uncovered a story that extends beyond the confines of science institutions.
