About the Economist
Madhura Swaminathan is Professor and Head of the Economic Analysis Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore. She has a doctorate in Economics from the University of Oxford and has worked on issues of food security, agriculture and rural development for over 30 years. She is a founding member of the Review of Agrarian Studies, a peer-reviewed journal on theoretical and empirical issues in agrarian studies. She was a member of the Government of India’s High-Level Panel on Long Term Food Security, and served on the Committee of Development Policy of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. She is a Member of the Kerala State Statistical Commission.
