In the first programme for the CALORIE Exhibition Season, economist Madhura Swaminathan explores the status of food security in India. In this lecture, Madhura will unpack key milestones and persistent challenges in both food production and consumption.

About the Economist

Madhura Swaminathan is Professor and Head of the Economic Analysis Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore. She has a doctorate in Economics from the University of Oxford and has worked on issues of food security, agriculture and rural development for over 30 years. She is a founding member of the Review of Agrarian Studies, a peer-reviewed journal on theoretical and empirical issues in agrarian studies. She was a member of the Government of India’s High-Level Panel on Long Term Food Security, and served on the Committee of Development Policy of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. She is a Member of the Kerala State Statistical Commission.
