From Data to Sound: The Making of 'Movement' 1: Nanomorphology

Nanoscale phenomena are so small that they require complex instruments to study and observe them. But how do you experience these phenomena outside of the laboratory? How can you translate data from the lab into a sound installation? This workshop explored the artistic practices used to create the soundscape for the installation Movement 1: Nanomorphology featured at CARBON. The artist shared digital tools made in Max MSP, and ran a session on how to use the tools with text files of two-dimensional scientific, numerical data.


About the Artist

Andrea is a filmmaker and media researcher. Working in artforms that engage with nanoscience and nanotechnology, she creates experimental films and moving image installations that explore technological mediation and the perception of the nanoscale realm. She is a Creative Research Fellow at the Curtin HIVE (Hub for Immersive Visualisation and eResearch).
