Carbon Nanoverse: 3D Visualisations in Art
How do artists and scientists collaborate to create immersive experiences? Participants listened to Jacob Martin and Andrea Rassell as they discussed the behind-the-scenes creation of Carbon Nanoverse, a cutting-edge Virtual Reality (VR) project blending media arts, physical chemistry, and game theory. The session was a deep-dive into a hands-on demonstration of stereoscopic 3D video for VR, which introduced easily accessible media tools for science projects along with a guided tour of the immersive VR experience.
About the Artist
Andrea Rasell is a filmmaker and media researcher. Working in artforms that engage with nanoscience and nanotechnology, she creates experimental films and moving image installations that explore technological mediation and the perception of the nanoscale realm. She is a Creative Research Fellow at the Curtin HIVE (Hub for Immersive Visualisation and eResearch).
About the Materials Scientist
Jacob Martin is a carbon materials scientist and nanotechnologist. He is currently working on advanced carbon materials for decarbonisation and has recently been working with Curtin HIVE (Hub for Immersive Visualisation and eResearch) on advanced 3D visualisations of disordered nanocarbons for education and research.
