Programme Associate (Communications)

The Programme Associate (Communications) is responsible for developing, writing, and maintaining all programme-related content at Science Gallery Bengaluru. This role ensures clarity, consistency, and accessibility across all programme communications, publications, and exhibition-related materials.

This position works closely with the Programme, Exhibitions, and Editorial teams to translate interdisciplinary research and programming into compelling public-facing content.


Key Responsibilities

1. Programme Content and Writing 

Write and edit:

  • Programme abstracts and descriptions

  • Open calls (programmes, festivals, partnerships)

  • Festival copy and booklet content

Ensure all programme communication is:

  • Clear, accessible, and audience-focused

  • Aligned with institutional tone and positioning

2. Exhibition Content Support

Provide inputs for:

  • Exhibition reader

  • Exhibition notes

  • Pamphlets and public-facing materials

Support editorial team in:

  • Label development 

  • Exhibition pamphlet development

3. Research and Content Development

Conduct research for:

  • Exhibition-season programmes

  • Programme framing and contextualisation

Work with Programme team to:

  • Shape programme abstracts 

4. Public Programmes 

  • Coordinate: In Your Words and Reading Circle

  • Develop themes, speakers, and formats for these programmes

5. Documentation and reporting

  • Maintain Programme content repository

  • Ensure documentation of programme content for future use

  • Contribute to exhibition report, annual review and internal report


Person Specification

Essential

  • 2–4 years of experience in writing, editorial, or content development roles

  • Excellent writing and editing skills 

  • Ability to translate complex ideas into accessible public language

  • Strong research and synthesis skills

  • Experience working across arts, culture, science, or interdisciplinary contexts

Desirable

  • Experience working with exhibitions or public programmes

  • Familiarity with editorial workflows and publishing processes

  • Background in natural and physical sciences 

  • Interest in science, technology, and culture

Nature of Employment Full-time, Probation - 6 months

Reporting to Senior Programmes Manager

Location Science Gallery Bengaluru, Bellary Road (next to IVRI)

Work Hours Wednesday to Sunday; we are a small team of an institution in the establishment phase and therefore looking for people who are able to work flexibly. Late-nights, holiday and weekend work may be required.
