Programme Intern
Job Summary
A Programme Intern will support the development and execution of exhibitions and public programmes at Science Gallery Bengaluru (SGB). The SGB Programme team works across exhibition-seasons based on a theme, public events, workshops, lab and studio visits, food and film festivals, and other forms of public engagement.
The intern will work closely with the Programme team on research, programme development, event coordination, documentation, and audience engagement, gaining hands-on experience of how public programmes at the intersection of science, technology, art and culture are developed and delivered. A key part of the role will be supporting the development and execution of SGB and annual Food Festival, Namma Oota, alongside the team and wider programme of events.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Research and Development
● Support research for exhibition-season events, public programmes, workshops, talks, performances, and other events.
● Support research and coordination for SGB's annual Food Festival, including identifying potential participants, practitioners, collaborators, and relevant research and content.
● Assist the Programme team in developing new public engagement formats and programme ideas.
● Assist with the development of programme-related content, presentations, briefs, and other internal documents.
Programme Execution and Event Coordination
● Support the planning and execution of onsite and offsite programmes and events.
● Work closely with the Programme team on the planning and execution of SGB’s annual Food Festival, including coordination with food practitioners, vendors, partners, and other participants.
● Assist with event logistics, including venue preparation, materials, schedules, registrations, and coordination with internal teams.
● Support communication and coordination with facilitators, speakers, artists, researchers, and external partners.
● Assist with programme-related communication and follow-ups.
● Support updates to the SGB exhibition website and other programme information as required.
● Assist the Programme and Operations teams during events to ensure their smooth running.
● Support the Communications and Design teams by providing programme information and inputs for event-related communication.
● Attend and support weekend programmes and events as required.
Documentation and Evaluation
● Assist in collecting participant feedback and programme data.
● Support the preparation of programme reports, internal reviews, archives, and other documentation.
● Assist in maintaining programme databases, contact lists, and other records.
● Support research into audience interests and needs to inform future programming.
Person Specifications
● Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines.
● Demonstrated interest in public engagement, cultural programming, science
communication, arts, or related fields.
● Strong research and writing skills.
● Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
● Attention to detail and willingness to take ownership of assigned tasks.
● Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
● Interest in current developments across science, technology, art, and culture.
● Undergraduate or postgraduate students, recent graduates, or candidates from any discipline are encouraged to apply. Formal qualifications are secondary to skills, experience, and demonstrated interest.
What the Internship Offers
The Programme Intern will gain hands-on experience in developing and delivering public programmes within a research-driven cultural institution. The role will provide opportunities to work with artists, scientists, researchers, cultural practitioners, and institutions, and to understand the processes involved in taking a programme from research and conceptualisation through to public engagement, documentation, and evaluation.
