PERSPECTIVES
Climate: Through Your Eyes was an endeavour to engage youth with the theme of climate change. We invited young adults (15-28 years) to respond to 5 prompts on the theme of climate change with their creative responses in the form of photographs, GIFs or short clips. A selection of these submissions were showcased on our social media platforms. The selected young photographers were mentored Kalyan Varma, an Emmy-nominated wildlife photographer and filmmaker.
This programme was conducted in partnership with the German Consulate, Consulate General of Switzerland, and Swissnex to mark the EU Climate Diplomacy Week 2021 (September 27-October 17)
Between February and May 2023, Science Gallery Bengaluru, along with Fullbright scholar Jay Barber hosted a cohort of young writers exploring the intersection of carbon and creative expression. These writers conceptualised graphite pencils, nanotubes, fire, the carbon cycle, the genesis of the elements, and other carbon-based ideas as fodder for their writing. The workshop saw the participation of science journalist Anil Anathaswamy, artist Sofy Yuditskaya, designer Ipsa Jain and author Shalinin Sreenivasan, as guest lecturers. At the end of the workshop, the cohort performed their poetry, nonfiction, fiction, and mixed media creations at Atta Galatta. Barber also worked with the SGB team to build an online creative writing course on carbon mirroring the work that she did during the in-person workshop.
