CALORIE Film Commission | Call for Proposals

Science Gallery Bengaluru invites filmmakers to pitch ideas for short films as part of our exhibition-season CALORIE.

A calorie measures energy. But it also measures effort, appetite, and access. It connects the body to the planet, metabolism to industry, and sustenance to inequality. Calorie turns to these linkages—between food and fuel, between work and nourishment—to think about how energy is produced, shared, and spent across scales of life.

We invite filmmakers to respond to these questions through layered, multidisciplinary storytelling. Films might follow the life of a seed, a meal, or a worker—moments where consumption and transformation reveal larger systems of exchange. Each story, however small, hints at how energy shapes the conditions of our lives.

We encourage inventive engagements with the film form—fiction, documentary, essay, or hybrid. We discourage simplistic, didactic, or purely informational approaches.
