Production Associate
The Production Associate supports the planning, design, and execution of exhibitions at Science Gallery Bengaluru (SGB), with a focus on spatial design, scenography, and on-ground production. This role involves working across exhibition builds—from concept development to installation—ensuring that ideas are translated into well-executed physical environments.
The Production Associate will work closely with curators, designers, artists, and vendors to deliver high-quality exhibitions, while also supporting technical setups and on-site troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities
1. Exhibition Production and Execution
Support the end-to-end production of exhibitions as well as showcase from programmes including planning, fabrication, installation, and deinstallation
Translate curatorial and design concepts into spatial layouts and built environments.
Assist in developing production timelines, workflows, and execution plans for exhibitions and installations
Coordinate on-ground installation processes and ensure timely, high-quality execution
2. Spatial Design and Scenography
Develop and support spatial layouts, exhibition plans, and scenographic elements.
Create drawings, layouts, and visualisations using tools such as SketchUp, AutoCAD, or similar software
Work with designers and curators to ensure coherence between concept, space, and visitor experience
Support wayfinding, placement of exhibits, and overall exhibition flow
3. Vendor and Fabrication Coordination
Liaise with fabricators, carpenters, printers, and technical vendors for production.
Support material selection, prototyping, and fabrication processes.
Supervise on-site teams to ensure quality and accuracy of builds.
Track production schedules and ensure timely delivery of all components
4. Technical and AV Support
Support setup and basic troubleshooting of AV systems, including projectors, screens, sound systems, and media players
Assist with installation of interactive or technology-led exhibits in coordination with artists and specialists
5. Logistics, Budgeting and Documentation
Support logistics including shipping, storage, and handling of exhibition components.
Track budgets, quotations, and payments in coordination with internal teams.
Maintain production documentation including drawings, vendor details, and technical specifications.
Identify risks during production and flag issues proactively.
Person Specifications
2–3 years of experience in exhibition production, spatial design, scenography, architecture, or a related field
Demonstrated experience working on physical builds, exhibitions, installations, or spatial projects
Proficiency in SketchUp, AutoCAD, or similar tools for spatial design and layout
Strong understanding of materials, fabrication processes, and spatial construction
Ability to read and produce technical drawings
Experience coordinating with vendors, fabricators, and on-ground production teams
Working knowledge of AV systems and basic technical setup for exhibitions
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple production timelines
Rigorous attention to detail in execution and build quality
Ability to problem-solve on-site and adapt to changing requirements
Ability to work collaboratively across teams including programmes, design, and external partners
Experience in museums, galleries, exhibitions, or experiential design environments is desirable
Familiarity with lighting, environmental graphics, or interactive exhibits is desirable
Ability to read and write Kannada is desirable
Highly reliable, hands-on, and comfortable working in on-site production environments
Curious and engaged in interdisciplinary work across science, technology, and the arts
A degree in architecture, spatial design, exhibition design, or a related field is desirable; formal qualifications are secondary to portfolio and demonstrated experience

Work Hours Wednesday to Sunday; we are a small team of an institution in the establishment phase and therefore looking for people who are able to work flexibly. Late-nights, holiday and weekend work may be required.
