About CARBON

We are all made of carbon, as is everything around us. From medicine and machinery to architecture and art—the sooty fingerprints of carbon are visible on almost everything humanity has built.

How do we make sense of this paradoxical element—critical to life yet capable of suffocating it? A learning journey through this exhibition season will re-introduce students to carbon, pushing them to understand this element beyond the textbook.

CARBON Student Walkthroughs

Mediators, our trained exhibition experts, lead tailored walkthroughs of CARBON for students aged 15 to 28 years. The walkthroughs focus on hands-on learning experiences through critical discussions and lively activities. We conduct these walkthroughs in English and Kannada, and can plan them in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, and Hindi.

What to Expect

General group walkthroughs are planned for 3 hours, in which time students have the opportunity to interact with 6–8 exhibits, discuss its key themes, and reimagine their relationship to carbon.

We can accommodate two student groups on weekdays (10 AM to 1 PM and 2 PM to 5 PM), with a maximum group size of 60 per slot. In case you would like to bring larger groups, we are happy to organise multiple walkthroughs for you.

Key Takeaways

Throughout the walkthrough, students will be able to:

  • Appreciate the breadth of multidisciplinary research around carbon.

  • Explore cutting-edge research around nanotechnology, data science, and energy production.

  • Reflect on their own relationship and understanding of carbon and its role in geopolitics, ecological practices, and art.

  • Re-evaluate their understanding of carbon, ecology, and climate change through hands-on activities and discussions.

DIGITAL LEARNING RESOURCES

The freely accessible Science Gallery Bengaluru Courseware brings together resources from our exhibition-seasons to facilitate non-evaluative, open-ended, and interdisciplinary learning.

We have five modules on Carbon and climate change. The first introduces students to climate change and carbon, and the others approach this topic through the lens of biophysics, art, technology, and lived experience. Each module consists of expert-led lecture videos, documentary films, articles to read, as well as exercises and assignments that promote critical engagement with the respective topics.

It is accompanied by an Instructor Guide that you can access here.
