Whale Falls, Carbon Sinks
Whale Falls, Carbon Sinks was an immersive installation emerging from the research of the Carbon Aesthetics Group, which brings together artists and scholars who explore carbon. Visitors catched a whiff of the vast oceans that whales traverse, and sensed the burning of whale oil in this exhibit about the inextricably intertwined natural and cultural history of whales.
In Whale Falls, Carbon Sinks, a digital collage showed the natural and cultural history of whales.

Research Group
Carbon Aesthetics Group is Desiree Foerster, Andrés Burbano, Myriel Milicevic, Alex Toland, Clemens Winkler and Karolina Sobecka. The group brings together artists and researchers who turn to the material and the elemental, as well as to the imaginaries and common representations of the interrelations of the bio-chemical and technological processes inherent to the carbon cycle. The group members foreground emphasis on relations that constitute objects, which allow the movement of materials, and thus form the infrastructure for our meaningful interactions with the world.
