Science Gallery Bengaluru seeking to appoint Director

The Board of Science Gallery Bengaluru seek to appoint a visionary director to lead the development and delivery of the project.

The Director will work closely with the Head of Project Delivery and all collaborating partners, shaping the future of the project. They will identify opportunities for collaboration that break new boundaries, seeking external partnerships which will develop new knowledge, new audiences and new levels of engagement at the creative fusion of science, technology and arts.

The ideal candidate will have a successful track record in leading an organisation focused on transdisciplinary public engagement with emerging ideas and research, from early stages to opening and operation as a successful self-sustaining enterprise. They will be regarded as a leader in this emerging field, with significant expertise and networks within the worlds of science, art, technology and business.

The Director will be responsible for developing, planning and implementing the Science Gallery Bengaluru Business Plan, recruiting and training Science Gallery Bengaluru staff and overseeing the operations of Science Gallery Bengaluru, including strategic planning for the long term development and financial sustainability of the gallery. In addition the Director, Science Gallery Bengaluru will be responsible for the gallery’s communication and engagement strategy and establishing a group of experts who will oversee the Science Gallery Bengaluru program and exhibitions.

Due to open its doors in 2018, Science Gallery Bengaluru will be a dynamic new space for engaging young adults at the interface between science and the arts. The first space of its kind in Asia, Science Gallery Bengaluru will deliver an innovative, ever-changing programme of exhibitions and events to engage 15-25 year olds at the dynamic interface between art and science.

The gallery will draw on the intellectual capital of three of India’s leading research institutions - the Indian Institute of Science, National Centre for Biological Science and Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology - and is being developed with the founding support of the Government of Karnataka.

As the first Asian member of the Global Science Gallery Network, SGB will build on the proven university-linked model of public engagement pioneered by Science Gallery at Trinity College Dublin, but will adapt this model to a different context – the city of Bengaluru, with a population of almost 11 million people, home to a dynamic creative community, some of India’s leading scientific institutions, and also the IT and biotechnology hub of India.
